Jonathan Camuy Vega: Telemundo producer fulfilled his dreams

Moved from Puerto Rico to pursue career in TV

Jonathan Camuy, 24, worked on "La Voz Kids" in Orlando before he was killed on June 12, 2016.

Jonathan Antonio Camuy Vega, 24, had a smile you could never forget.

Camuy moved from his native Puerto Rico to Orlando to fulfill his dreams of working in television.

After moving in with his cousin in Orlando Camuy was able to work toward achieving that dream.

Camuy worked as an assistant producer on "La Voz Kids" at Telemundo, a Spanish show similar to NBC's "The Voice."

"When he came from Puerto Rico, he came here with one vision ... he wants to work in TV," a co-worker who didn't want to be named told News 6.

She said Camuy had dreams of working on a magazine show one day, and would often do anything that had to do with production.

“He was a great assistant producer,” Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, said in a statement. “Jonathan will be missed dearly.”

On his off-time, his co-worker told News 6 he loved to spend with his niece and he loved to dance.

"He just loved life," she said.

Camuy went out for a night of dancing with his friends Yilmary Rodriquez Solivan and William Sabad Borges when he was killed June 12, 2016 in the Pulse nightclub shooting.

Camuy tried to shield Solivan from the gunfire and was killed, Borges said on Facebook. Camuy and Solivan both died. Borges was shot twice and recovered.

Camuy is survived by his parents, Carlos Ivan Camuy Rodriquez and Lourdes Vega Rodriguez, and his brother, Carlos Ivan Camuy Vega.

A funeral service was held for Camuy in Kissimmee and his body was flown back to Puerto Rico where he was buried.
