Man killed when motorcycle slammed into garbage truck in DeLand, troopers say

76-year-old victim from Deleon Springs, FHP says

DeLAND, Fla. – A 76-year-old man died after his motorcycle slammed into the front of a garbage truck in DeLand, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man from Deleon Springs was riding north on March Road prior to the wreck.

Investigators said the garbage truck was stopped in the southbound lane collecting garbage near the intersection with Old Daytona Road.

The 76-year-old, who was not wearing a helmet, crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the front of the garbage truck, FHP said. Investigators are trying to determine why the man crossed into the southbound lane.

The man was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

The driver of the garbage truck was not hurt.
