Fugitive found dead after hourslong standoff at Mosaic at Millenia apartments in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was found dead Thursday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after an hourslong standoff with police at an Orlando apartment complex, police said.

According to the Orlando Police Department, officers assisted the U.S. Marshals Service in an investigation involving a suspect at the Mosaic at Millenia apartments.

Law enforcement officers attempted to contact the man, who made suicidal threats and barricaded himself in the apartment, the department said.

Officers said SWAT and crisis negotiation teams worked for more than five hours in an effort to get the man to peacefully surrender.

Police said officers entered the apartment without incident at 7:24 p.m. and found the man dead. Police said the man died from an apparent “self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

The Orlando Police Department tweeted at 8:37 p.m. that the situation was resolved, telling residents that they were able to return home.

Police said in a news conference later that evening there was no threat to the community.

In an update Thursday night, the Albany County (New York) District Attorney’s Office on Twitter identified the man as 36-year-old Michael Green aka Michael Edwards. The DA’s office said Green was the subject of a nearly two-week search that began June 10 after he left the courthouse prior to being read guilty verdicts for second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, charges associated with a drive-by shooting in April 2020.
