Missing boater identified, body recovered from lake in St. Cloud, officials say

Boat ramp at Lakefront Park now reopened

ST CLOUD, Fla. – The body of a missing boater who fell overboard in East Lake Toho Saturday night was recovered Sunday morning, according to the City of St. Cloud and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

In an update at 12:59 p.m., the city said in a statement that FWC officials had recovered the man’s body around 10 a.m.

FWC issued a statement identifying the boater as Shawn Rand, of Port St. Lucie, and extended the commission’s condolences to Rand’s family.

Yellow crime scene tape blocked off a boat ramp earlier Sunday as investigators with FWC worked with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office to resume the search for Rand. The ramp at Lakefront Park has since reopened, the city said.

Pictures shared on social media by the St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department show how search efforts began Saturday night. FWC officials said they got a call from the sheriff’s office around 8 p.m. about how Rand fell off a pontoon boat and did not resurface.

The investigation is ongoing, FWC said.
