Central Florida hits deadline to apply for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Ian

Deadline for Hurricane Nicole assistance is Feb. 13

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Thursday marks the final day for anyone impacted by Hurricane Ian to apply for disaster assistance with FEMA.

According to the agency, applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2023, to be considered for assistance.

Workers at Barnett Park, which is the location of Orange County’s Disaster Recovery Center, assisted residents with the process on Thursday.

Tonya Holmes filled out her application weeks ago but is now seeking additional help with living arrangements.

“I lost my whole entire life. My home and my business,” Holmes said. “I’m here to at least try to figure out and give us some type of roof over our head. At least give us an extension until we figure out some type of housing.”

After registering, officials said it’s important to stay in touch with FEMA to track an application or notify the agency of changes.

Application and disaster information is still available by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362.

FEMA said while the Hurricane Ian application period is ending, the agency would continue working with Florida to help communities in long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts.

The deadline for Hurricane Nicole assistance is Feb. 13.
