KSC tour guide’s children’s book to head into space with Crew-6

‘Ticket to Space’ will make its way to the International Space Station

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – The delay Monday for Crew-6 means it will take a few more days for Steve Bowen, Woody Hoberg, Sultan AlNayedi, Andre Fedyaev and a children’s book from reaching the International Space Station.

When Adrienne Romberger retired from teaching fourth graders about space, she became a Kennedy Space Center tour guide, and then an author.

She said she wrote and illustrated “Ticket to Space” originally, for her grandchildren, but now, through the Story Time From Space program, an astronaut on the ISS will read her book and a recording will be available for children around the world.

Romberger said she couldn’t believe her book was selected.

“It’s really quite miraculous,” she said. “I mean, it’s my first book.”

Romberger said she expects children in schools, libraries and at home to read along with the astronaut.

“I’d be pretty excited if I were a kid,” she said.

And while her characters like Merc, Gus and Jim Gemini will go to space, Rombergers said her inner-child is going too in a sentimental way.

“My grandmother told me in 1958, ‘Someday Adrienne, you could go to space.’ And I believed her,” she said.

NASA and SpaceX are now planning to launch Crew-6 and Ticket to Space at 12:34 in the morning on Thursday.
