Crews suspend search for missing swimmer in ocean off Brevard County beach

Another swimmer rescued in search near Indialantic Boardwalk

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard announced that the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has suspended search efforts for a swimmer last seen off Indialantic on Friday, pending new information.

A spokesperson with Brevard County Fire Rescue on Friday said the search was near Indialantic Boardwalk and one swimmer has been rescued, but another is missing.

“We offer our deepest sympathies to the family,” said Lt. Rian Ellis, search and rescue mission coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville. “Suspending a search is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make as first responders and it is never made lightly.”

The Coast Guard said they searched 106 square miles with help from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, FWC, Indialantic Police Department and Brevard County Fire Rescue.

On Friday, the Coast Guard said they were assisting in a search for the swimmer, described as an 18-year-old man, last wearing black swimming shorts.
