ORLANDO, Fla. – MetroPlan Orlando is launching a regionwide push aimed at vastly improving safety on the roads.
The initiative, called Vision Zero Central Florida, includes a goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties.
Vision Zero Central Florida is happening through a $3.79 million Safe Streets and Roads for All federal grant.
Every week, five people die and 35 people are seriously injured in Central Florida crashes, according to MetroPlan.
To reduce the number of crashes, an action plan is being established.

The plan includes analyzing data uploaded to Vison Zero’s High Injury Network. A data dashboard was also developed to identify areas that have an increased risk of serious crashes.
Officials said Vision Zero will lay out additional action tailored for each county and city. The plan will identify opportunities to change roadway designs, educational needs, and enforcement strategies.
The regional and local Vision Zero Safety Action Plans should be completed in spring 2024.
Officials expect the first list of projects that address specific needs by summer 2024.
