ORLANDO, Fla. – There were plenty of smiles, excitement and a lot of holiday cheer inside Orlando’s Reeves Terrace neighborhood on Friday.
District Four Commissioner Patty Sheehan hosted her 22nd annual “Wheels for Kids” event.
The event began in 2002, following a decision to eliminate school bus service in the area for nearby Lake Como Elementary. However, the school is about one mile away for many of the children.
More than 130 scooters were given out on Friday. The program has given out more than 2,000 scooters and bicycles to children during its two-decades-long tradition.

The Orlando Fire Department escorted Santa to the park where the donations were given.
“When you invest in children, it pays back. These are great kids,” Sheehan said.
Orlando Police Chief Erik Smith also helped carry boxes and hand children the early Christmas gifts for the children.
