Investigation sparks heavy law enforcement response at Marion County neighborhood

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Law enforcement officers responded to a neighborhood in Marion County on Wednesday afternoon as part of an “active investigation,” according to the sheriff’s office.

In a news release sent just after 3:30 p.m., deputies said that they, crisis negotiators and a SWAT team arrived in the area of Southwest 47th Avenue Road and Southwest 48th Avenue.

According to investigators, the sheriff’s office is helping the Palatka Police Department with an investigation.

Detectives with the PPD said they identified and located a vehicle in Marion County that was potentially involved in a shooting on Tuesday night. As a result, police and deputies are trying to identify people “inside of a structure” where the vehicle was found.

While deputies initially warned people to avoid the area, the sheriff’s office later announced around 5:40 p.m. that investigators were clearing the scene.
