ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Lyft driver arrested Wednesday in Orange County is accused of shooting a man during an altercation involving a slammed car door, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to the 7300 block of Spring Villas and found the victim and his brother on the front porch of a home, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in the accused shooter’s arrest affidavit.
The victim was lying on the ground and was later determined to have been shot in the abdomen and in the foot, the affidavit states, adding the accused shooter — Rolando Rivera-Casillas, 33, of Melbourne — was found standing at the back of an SUV with his hands on the vehicle and what appeared to be a firearm on the hood.
In the ambulance, the victim told deputies that a verbal argument had begun as he and his brother attempted to get out the Lyft vehicle, after which Rivera-Casillas also exited and shot at them both as they ran away, according to the report. Detectives at the scene were told by the victim’s brother that Rivera-Casillas was upset over the slamming of his car door and asked them to end the ride while threatening to shoot them, the report states.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows the Lyft vehicle arriving and the brothers entering it before exiting it shortly thereafter. The brothers can then be seen running away as Rivera-Casillas walks toward the rear of his car and fires five shots at them, investigators said.
Rivera-Casillas faces two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm, records show. He was being held on no bond at the time of this report.
