Judge delays hearing in Orange County teen shooting death of classmate sparked by ‘bump in the hallway’

Jacori Redding, 15, being charged as an adult

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A judge is delaying a pre-trial detention hearing for a teenager accused in a deadly shooting of a classmate near Oak Ridge High School.

In a hearing on Wednesday, Judge Cherish Adams granted a request for more time to prepare arguments against the state’s motion to keep Jacori Redding, 15, in jail.

Redding is being tried as an adult on a charge of manslaughter in the shooting death of 16-year-old Pinien Dalmacy.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Redding shot the victim on a basketball court at Vogt-Mellon Park hours after the two were involved in a confrontation at nearby Oak Ridge High School.

Sheriff John Mina said the two students got into a disagreement over a bump in the hallway.

According to deputies, Redding ran back to Oak Ridge High after the shooting and was found in the cafeteria with a gun in his backpack.

In the motion for pre-trial detention, prosecutors said Redding has a record of 39 discipline incidents with Orange County Public Schools, which included 17 for physical altercations.

The state also said Redding was out on bond for a charge of grand theft of a motor vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Redding is scheduled for an in-jail arraignment on Monday.

The hearing for pre-trial detention was rescheduled for Nov. 12 at 9 a.m.
