New trial date set for estranged wife of suspended Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez

Robin Severance Lopez accused of violating bond terms

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A new trial date was set Thursday for the estranged wife of suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez.

Robin Severance Lopez was arrested on Oct. 23 after deputies say she accused of violating the terms of her bond related to an ongoing illegal gambling investigation. Her bond has since been revoked, and she has been in jail.

Prosecutors said they plan to introduce as evidence recorded jail calls between the defendants, as well as financial records during the trial, which was set to begin next week. During Thursday’s hearing, her defense asked for a continuance to go through the new evidence and the judge granted it.

A new trial date was set for Dec. 8.

“She shouldn’t have to waive speedy trial. She wants to make sure that she doesn’t remain in jail any longer than necessary, and the only reason we aren’t ready for Monday is because the state just dropped all this new discovery on us,” defense attorney Michelle Yard said.

Severance Lopez, 50, was first arrested in June 2025 as part of an illegal gambling probe centered around her husband. The recent arrest stems from allegations that she provided false or misleading information in connection with an application to modify her bail conditions.

According to court documents obtained by News 6, Severance Lopez testified during a court hearing on Aug. 20, 2025, that she could not afford the $10 daily cost of a GPS monitor required as a bail condition. She also claimed her personal bank account was frozen and that she had no access to other funds except those shared with her husband.

However, according to an arrest warrant, financial investigations revealed that Severance Lopez had opened new single-party accounts at Addition Financial Credit Union and Fairwinds Credit Union in July and August 2025. Records showed deposits and withdrawals totaling tens of thousands of dollars, including a $20,000 deposit and a $20,000 withdrawal at Addition Financial in August 2025.

Further review showed that Severance Lopez had approximately $16,000 in her Fairwinds accounts around the time of the bail hearing, contradicting her sworn testimony of financial hardship. The affidavit states that this discrepancy constitutes providing false or misleading material information to the court.

Lopez has waived his right to a speedy trial and won’t face a jury until sometime next year. He has a status hearing set for Dec. 2.
