ORLANDO, Fla. – Dozens of Orange County leaders and representatives gathered Monday to honor those who have served in the U.S. military, marking the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.
The event featured multiple speakers and presentations by high school students, including performances by local high school singers.
Mayor Jerry Demings presented a special proclamation recognizing the service and sacrifice of veterans.
“This is an important time in our nation and an opportunity to say thank you to our veterans,” Demings said. “No matter what branch, rank or duty assignment, we celebrate our freedom because of your service.”

Orange County officials emphasized that events like this help veterans feel seen and appreciated for their commitment to the country. As part of the observance, several buildings in downtown Orlando will be lit green to highlight the county’s Greenlight initiative, a national show of support for veterans.
Over the weekend, the City of Orlando held its 26th annual Veterans Day Parade in Lake Nona for the first time.
