VIDEO: Here’s what you SHOULDN’T do with your turkey this Thanksgiving

Deep frying mishaps can lead to quick-spreading fires

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Cooking fires are the leading cause of house fires and with Thanksgiving right around the corner, Orange County Fire Rescue is making sure residents know what to do and what NOT to do when cooking turkey.

Deep frying a turkey may seem like the easiest cooking option, but improper frying could lead to an inferno — in a very short time.

Firefighters on Friday demonstrated what could happen when a frozen turkey is placed into an overfilled, hot oil fryer.

Video shows the turkey being dropped into the fryer, and within seconds, oil spilled over and a fire erupted.

Always use a fryer outdoors and not on a covered porch or carport. A fire can spread quickly.

Turkey should always be thawed and lowered gently into a fryer if you choose to deep fry one.
