OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A man living in Osceola County was arrested Thursday, accused of buying child porn on the darknet with Bitcoin, according to the sheriff’s office.
Janderson Freitas-Leite, 47, faces charges of unlawful use of a two-way communication device and eight counts of possession of child porn, records show.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Freitas-Leite after being informed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual using the “Dark Web” was purchasing child sexual abuse material, the agency said on social media.
Deputies on Nov. 14 visited Freitas-Leite’s apartment at The Teale, near Kissimmee, where they served a residential search warrant and interviewed him, the post states. Investigators recovered several of Freitas-Leite’s electronics, including cell phones and laptop computers, and — after examining the devices — found probable cause to charge him, according to the post. A warrant was obtained on Thursday and Freitas-Leite was subsequently arrested, booked into the Orange County jail on no bond, the sheriff’s office said.
Anyone with information related to this case or to any similar incidents is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 407-348-2222.
