LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – The estranged wife of suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez on Monday entered a guilty plea in an illegal gambling case, weeks before she was set to go on trial.
Court documents show Robin Severance Lopez agreed to plead guilty to money laundering, stemming from her June arrest as part of an investigation into an illegal casino operation in Osceola County.
Marcos Lopez was also arrested, along with several others.
Severance Lopez was originally charged with conspiracy to commit racketeering. Money laundering is listed on the court document as a lesser charge.
She was sentenced to 24 months of probation.
The court also withheld adjudication against Severance Lopez, which means she will not have a felony record once she completes her sentence.
She also pleaded guilty to providing false information on a bail application. That’s a newer charge stemming from accusations that she tried to get out of paying for a GPS ankle monitor when she posted bail by claiming she couldn’t afford it.
However, a financial investigation found that she had opened new bank accounts in July and August with thousands of dollars in them.
Severance Lopez was arrested in October for that charge, and her bond was revoked.
She was sentenced to 24 months of probation for this as well, which will be served at the same time as her sentence for the other charge.
News 6 is working to find out what this means going forward.
Another co-defendant in the case, Krishna Deokaran, also pleaded guilty in his case Monday, to a charge of money laundering.
Documents released last week showed Deokaran was on the list of witnesses expected to testify for the prosecution against Severance-Lopez.
