OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A teacher at Central Point Christian Academy was arrested for “inappropriate misconduct” with a 13-year-old student, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Yezmar Angeanis Ramos-Figueroa, 22, was arrested on Wednesday. She worked at the school as a physical education teacher.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives were notified in mid-October by the 13-year-old victim’s mother. Detectives then spoke with the victim and obtained texts and photos sent by Ramos-Figueroa to the teen’s phone, officials said.
Ramos-Figueroa admitted to detectives that she texted and sent a photo to the victim, the sheriff’s office said. She was booked into the Osceola County jail and faces charges of distributing obscene material to a minor and transmitting harmful material to a minor.
Sheriff’s Office Director of Public Information and Community Relations Kim Montes said the messages included semi-nude photos sent by the teacher to the student and described the exchanges as “obscene material sent to a minor and inappropriate texting back and forth.” Montes added that Ramos-Figuero admitted to exchanging texts with the child and “appeared to be remorseful.”
Investigators said there is no indication of a physical relationship or any physical conduct between the teacher and the student, but that the content of the texts was alarming. The sheriff’s office said it is working to determine whether any other children may have been involved.
Central Point Christian Academy was asked for comment but could not be reached because the school is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. Sheriff’s deputies said they believe the school is aware of the situation.
At her first appearance in court Thursday, Ramos-Figueroa was given $10,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with the victim or with other minor children, and no access to the internet.
Ramos-Figueroa’s attorney said she is not currently teaching.
The sheriff’s office is asking family members of any other minor children who may have had contact with Ramos-Figueroa to contact them at 407-348-2222.
