‘Please, hurry!’: New evidence in grandparents’ murder includes gunshots heard on 911 call, grandson’s motive

George and Mary White thought Jeremyah Campbell was on drugs, family member says

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – For the first time, we’re hearing the terrifying call for help back in July when the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said a young man drove from Texas to West Melbourne and killed his grandparents.

“There’s shots fired! Please, please, hurry,” a neighbor on Washington Street was heard telling a 911 operator.

As soon as deputies said George White, 83, ran to his neighbor’s house after his grandson Jeremyah Campbell, 22, shot White’s wife, Mary White, 81, those neighbors called 911 as bullets came flying through their front door.

“Are you safe?” the operator asked the caller. “No, I don’t know, and someone is shot,” the neighbor answered. “My daughter is 25 and shot. It started at the neighbor’s, and he came over, and I let him in, and I locked the door, and as soon as I let him in and locked the door, shots started firing.”

The young woman lived.

Since his last report on this tragedy, the state attorney’s office also gave West Melbourne Community Correspondent James Sparvero a note the sheriff’s office said was on White’s refrigerator.

Deputies said when they caught Campbell, he said some bizarre things, like Satan was in his head.

There were more comments along those lines written on the note.

It’s titled ‘Daily Confessions’, and the first of the bullet points read, ‘Every curse of limitation in my life shall be destroyed by fire today, in the name of Jesus.’"

And what could be the first hint at a possible motive, according to a newly obtained report from the sheriff’s office, a family member told deputies that Campbell and his grandparents had an argument earlier that night because the family thought Campbell was on drugs.

The state attorney’s office filed second-degree murder charges against Campbell. The maximum penalty he could face if convicted is life in prison.
