Amazon in Orlando expects almost double the packages for Cyber Monday

Shoppers expected to spend $14 billion this year

ORLANDO, Fla. – As shoppers take advantage of discounts found during Cyber Monday, Amazon is expecting to handle nearly double its average number of orders.

At the Amazon Same-Day Delivery facility in Orlando, workers were busy processing an expected 90,000 packages on Monday.

“On a normal day, we’ll ship out around 50,000 packages,” area manager Daniel Browne said. “The holidays, black Friday, and Cyber Monday, that can go as high as 90,000 packages. So, we’re talking almost double the volume of a normal day.”

To help handle the increased number of orders, Amazon created 250,000 nationwide seasonal positions. More than 2,000 additional employees were expected to be hired in the Central Florida area.

At the Orlando facility, robotic shelves are used to move products throughout the warehouse where they’re scanned, packaged, and sent out for delivery minutes after the order is made.

“For us, there’s no middleman. It’s all packed out. It’s all sent directly to the customer from this facility,” Browne said.
