DeLAND, Fla. – A man accused of breaking into a DeLand home Monday morning was shot by a resident Monday morning, police said.
The shooting happened near the 100 block of Voorhis Street, southeast of East Kanesville Boulevard.
DeLand police said a woman who lives at the home answered a knock at the door, thinking it was a delivery. Police said the man, who had a gun, forced his way inside the home.
The woman’s husband grabbed a gun, urged the man to drop his weapon, and then shot him in the chest, police said.
The intruder was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center and is expected to survive.
Police said preliminary evidence shows the man had a previous relationship with the woman and may have been stalking her.
Once the intruder is released from the hospital he will be taken to jail, but he has not been arrested yet.
Police initially reported that two people were taken into custody, but later clarified that there was only one intruder.
