Who would do a thing like this? Enormous Christmas bulbs missing from downtown Melbourne display

Melbourne Main Street seeks return of decorations

MELBOURNE, Fla. – It’s the case of the missing giant Christmas decorations.

Melbourne Main Street on Friday posted to Facebook that two giant Christmas bulbs were stolen from a downtown holiday display.

The nonprofit organization said the bulb-shaped decorations — one orange and the other blue — were taken from the corner of New Haven Avenue and Livingston Street.

In the post, Melbourne Main Street said the bulbs are “impossible to hide under a jacket.”

The post also stated that the culprit is “stealing holiday spirit from an entire community. (Yes… someone actually took two enormous ornaments. That really happened.)"

The group said anyone with information can send a private message.

“If the bulbs ‘mysteriously reappear’ overnight… we’ll call that a holiday miracle. No questions asked," the post stated.

News 6 community correspondent James Sparvero, who is looking into the disappearance of the decorations, said police are investigating the curious case.

“The police are still getting with business owners and property owners downtown to look at their camera footage,” Melbourne Main Street executive director Kim Agee told Sparvero.

Agee said she won’t press charges if the bulbs are returned.

Matt Wilson walked past the bulbs on Monday and commented on their size.

“I think it’s wild,” he said. “They’re as big as I am.”

Danielle Carlo, who works downtown, had her own suspicions about who did it.

“Well, isn’t the Grinch coming around?” she asked. “It might be him.”
