Albert Park in Orlando’s College Park neighborhood reopens with new renovations

Iconic oak tree removed after falling in 2020

ORLANDO, Fla. – A well-known park in Orlando’s College Park neighborhood celebrated its grand re-opening on Thursday.

News 6 was there as Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and other city leaders cut the ribbon to the renovated park.

Since September, Albert Park has been undergoing construction. It now features a new 20-foot by 30-foot pavilion, updated landscaping, and lighting to create a more vibrant, accessible and functional space for the community.

To make room for these changes, an iconic oak tree in Albert Park, that fell during a storm in 2020, was removed.

City leaders said the tree was encroaching on the sidewalk and it would have cost about $200,000 to try to re-locate it.

To honor the legacy of the tree, the city handed out 50 Albert Park oak seedlings grown from its acorns, something they also did when the renovations began.

Meanwhile, renovations are also underway at another green space in College Park. Dartmouth Park is expected to fully re-open by the end of 2025.
