APOPKA, Fla. – The race for Apopka mayor is getting more crowded as Nick Nesta, a city commissioner in Apopka, announced his candidacy on Monday.
“Apopka is a remarkable city with incredible potential,” Nesta said. “But to protect that potential, we need leadership that puts residents first, manages growth responsibly, and ensures city hall operates efficiently and openly for everyone.”

Nesta joins three other candidates in what’s shaping up to be hotly-contested race:
- Bryan Nelson, the sitting mayor seeking another term
- Christine Moore, an Orange County commissioner and former school board member
- Matthew Aungst, an attorney running who’s running for municipal office for the first time
The mayoral contest will appear on the same ballot as a charter referendum that could shift Apopka to a council-manager form of government, reducing the administrative authority of the mayor.
The election will happen on March 10, 2026.
