I also can’t forget pas de cheval! That’s the dance move that translates to the “step of the horse” in English. Did I mention I did ballet for 11 years growing up?
Hey, I’m News 6 producer Brooke Savage, the writer behind this Setting The Stage newsletter.
Let’s take a look at what’s going on. ⤵
🩰 Orlando Ballet is opening its season with ‘Swan Lake’
Set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved music, the show follows the story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, a princess cursed by an evil sorcerer to live as a swan.
The prince and princess meet and spark a love that could break the curse, but a deception from the sorcerer’s daughter, Odile, threatens their chance at freedom.
During the performance, the leading ballerina embodies both Odette, the White Swan, and Odile, the Black Swan.
The show features 85 dancers, including 28 students from Orlando Ballet’s school ranging in age 7 and up. I had the chance to catch up with artistic director Jorden Morris.

🩸 ‘Evil Dead: The Musical’ features a splatter zone
Tonight through Nov. 2, you can catch a musical taking elements from the cult classic films “The Evil Dead,” “Evil Dead 2″ and “Army of Darkness.”
The show follows five college students who go to an abandoned cabin in the woods. They accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s then up to Ash, a demon-killing hero, to save the day.
The show is presented by the Bay Street Players and even though it sounds like it’s filled with horror, they describe the musical as a comedy from start to finish.
There’s a “splatter zone,” the first three rows where audience members can get covered in fake blood. Guests who sit there get a free t-shirt!
The musical has some midnight showings too. Here’s how you can catch it at the historic Eustis State Theatre.
🎶 Remember I told you about that ‘Films in Concert’ series at Dr. Philips Center?
Next Saturday, on Oct. 25, “One Piece” Music Symphony will bring the longest-running anime/manga series to life with a 50-piece symphony performing.
If “One Piece” isn’t your thing, the “Films in Concert” series will also feature a “Hocus Pocus” film concert on Nov. 1 and a “Moana” film concert on Nov. 25.
Digital journalist Brenda Argueta posted everything you need to know.
