Records: Childrenโs homes loses 250+ โrunawayโ kids in less than 5 years
Community members say they are fed up with a foster care group home in their backyard. This is the same group home which closed their emergency shelter program earlier this month after deputies say kids escaped, broke into a nearby home and fired guns at deputies.
โI need a closure:โ Rewards increase to $25,000 for 2 Volusia County cold cases
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. โ The Volusia County Sheriffโs Office is increasing the rewards in two major cold cases that happened years ago this month. โI do believe thereโs a lot of people walking around who know who killed my son,โ said Walkerโs mother, Alfreda Walker Tarver. โOriginally, when deputies responded they believed it was a car accident and the next day in the autopsy they found out he had been shot and killed,โ Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said. The other case is the 26-year-old cold case of the murder of 15-year-old Laralee Spear. AdTheyโre just two of dozens of cold cases the office still has but the sheriff is bringing light to theirs as the anniversary of their deaths comes this month.
Orlando-area students participate in walkouts in wake of school shooting
Walkouts were reported Wednesday at Hagerty High School, Lake Mary High School, Oviedo High School, University High School in Orange City and Lyman High School, among other schools across the state. Video showed students sitting on the ground outside of University High School in Orlando chanting "What do we want? Officials from Volusia County Schools said more than 2,000 students participated in a walk out at University High School in Orange City. Seminole County School DistrictWhile the district isn't organizing the event, officials have been made aware and school administrators have been notified. The principal at University High School in Orange City estimates more than 2,000 students participate.
Ocoee Holds Off West Orange Rally, Wins 31-29
Nov. 4, 2016 โ The Ocoee Knights withstood a furious second half comeback from West Orange to win the latest edition of the "Shield" rivalry 31-29. West Orange never quit, taking advantage of stalled Ocoee drives, miscues, and penalties, scoring two quick touchdowns in the third quarter to make it a football game again. However, a late field goal from Ocoee proved to be the difference as the Knights beat the Warriors for the first time in the last 7 meetings. Ocoee, which improved to 7 & 3, is on to the playoffs and opens with Bartram Trail. West Orange wraps up the season with a 2 & 7 record.
Wekiva Knocks Off East River 41-14
Nov. 4, 2016 โ Wekiva's Jaylon Fair could not be stopped Friday night in the Mustangs' season finale. The tailback bounced off and fought through 6 defenders seemingly with ease on a jaw-dropping 66-yard touchdown run in the first quarter against East River. The Mustangs led 21-7 in the first nine minutes of the game and went on to defeat East River 41-14. Wekiva, 6 & 3, opens up at Winter Park. 6 & 4 East River, which got a nifty pick-six from Jamal Valentin, plays at Viera.
Jones Takes Care Of Business Against Lake Highland 41-13
October 28, 2016 โ 2016 has already been a remarkable season for the Jones Fightin' Tigers. Under first-year coach Elijah Williams, the Tigers secured a playoff berth with a 41-13 defeat of Lake Highland Prep in Week 10. The Fightin' Tigers improved to 9 & 1 with the victory, their best record in years. Jones caps off the regular season next week at Avon Park. Lake Highland Prep, a respectable 6 & 3, wraps up its regular season schedule at Trinity Prep.

University Orange City Downs Winter Springs 41-3
October 14, 2016 โ 5-star tailback Lorenzo Lingard scored on a short touchdown run right before the half and on a long touchdown run right after the half, helping University Orange City dominate Winter Springs 41-3. Lingard, a junior, is being recruited by the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, and Florida State. University seems to regaining its stride with the playoffs less than a month away. The Titans head into a Week 9 matchup at Lake Mary with a 5 & 2 record. Winter Springs, 2 & 5 on the year, hosts undefeated Seminole next.
Seminole Outslugs Lake Brantley 35-28 To Stay Undefeated
September 30, 2016 โ Seminole tailback DJ Hampton came through when his team needed him most. With the game against Lake Brantley tied at 21, Hampton answered the call, scoring his third and fourth touchdowns of the night in the second half to lead the Seminoles to a 35-28 victory. Hampton finished with close to 250 yards rushing. Seminole improved to 5 & 0 on the season and visits Lyman next week. Lake Brantley heads into a bye week at 3 & 3.

Jones Pulls Away From West Orange 48-24
September 23, 2016 โ A strong second half propelled the Jones Fightin' Tigers to an impressive road win at West Orange. Leading 21-17 early in the third quarter, Jones quarterback Qadry Jones threw a touchdown pass to Elijah Clersidor, igniting a Tiger offense that scored 27 points in the the second half. With the victory, Jones improved to 5 & 0 on the season. The Tigers host Astronaut in Week 6. West Orange takes on another undefeated team, Apopka, at home.
