Legislation aims to change LGBTQ+ guidelines in Brevard Public Schools
VIERA, Fla. โ Tuesday nightโs Brevard County school board meeting drew supporters and opposition who often clashed vocally in the discussion about the districtโs guidelines for gay and transgender students and staff. About 5,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled from a containment area Monday to the ground within and surrounding the headworks building at Brevard Countyโs South Central Treatment Facility in Viera, News 6 partner Florida Today reports. At about 12:30 p.m., โan unknown eventโ caused two electrical breakers to trip, resulting in a loss of power to the headworks โ the early pretreatment stage of the sewage treatment process, according to a state public notice of the spill. Brevard County plans to expand COVID-19 vaccination locations
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. โ Unanimously and without debate, Brevard commissioners believe the county is ready to expand its COVID-19 vaccination sites. This month, the health department in Viera has given 12,000 vaccines to seniors. At least with Florida, weโve got a guarantee on one and a possibility on the other,โ Bailey said. However, like the rest of the state, Brevard is prioritizing public vaccines to seniors and Gov. DeSantis confirmed Tuesday at the Viera Publix that the state is stopping giving vaccines to tourists.

VIERA, Fla. โ On the first full day of public drive-thru vaccinations at the Brevard County health department, a state lawmaker said he thinks thereโs just not enough vaccines and theyโre not being distributed fast enough. Deborah Arluck, also from Palm Bay, was second Monday to get the vaccine.
Brevard to host drive-thru vaccination event for 65+ residents
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. โ Brevard County will begin vaccinating people 65 and older on Jan. 4 at a drive-thru site in Viera but residents must have appointments. The county has been inoculating frontline health care workers and long-term care facilities and will expand to people over 65 beginning Monday. Video of Gregory Edwards, veteran who died in custody at Brevard jail, to be released
VIERA, Fla. โ The Gregory Edwards video will be made public Friday. Edwards resisted being booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes, leading to an altercation with at least seven deputies. The Sheriffโs Office said its release could endanger the safety of deputies and inmates at the jail. Florida Today filed a lawsuit against the Brevard County Sheriffโs Office in July seeking the video. The agreed-upon video will allow the public to see what happened to Edwards from the moment he entered the Brevard County Jail with only certain security features being redacted.
Brevard jail video of inmate death wonโt be released before Election Day
โThey are making a very reasonable argument that the public needs to know what happened at the jail,โ Brevard circuit court Judge David Dugan said Friday. Edwards was charged with hitting a charity Santa Claus at a West Melbourne Walmart on Dec. 9, 2018. The criminal defense lawyer and former public defender said he watch the video to see what Edwards said and what he did once inside the jail. โAnd then I would look at the response,โ Edmond said. The judge then has to approve the agreement before video can become public.

19-year-old found dead in car in Brevard, deputies say
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. โ A 19-year-old man was found dead Saturday evening in a vehicle in Brevard County, according to sheriffโs officials. On Monday, the Brevard County Sheriffโs Office dive team searched a pond near where the victimโs body was found. Brevard sheriffโs deputies wait for dive team to arrive to Viera apartments to search a pond for evidence next to the parking spot where deputies say a teenagerโs body was found in a car on July 4. "Our goal with the task force is get to these kids before they get to these situations that are taking their lives," Ivey said. The sheriff said that since the announcement of the task force, teams are getting involved with different youth organizations and camps.
Report: 1-year-old son of Gregory Edwards pronounced dead
According to Brevard County Sheriffโs Office reports, detectives and crime scene technicians are investigating to โdetermine the circumstances relatedโ to the death of the 18-month-old child. Kathleen Edwards, the childโs mother and Gregory Edwardsโ widow, called 911 around 9 a.m. June 28. Edwards was detained and taken to the Brevard County Jail where he fought with corrections officers. Family, friends and activists have called for the release of the jail video showing Edwards. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has said the video will not be released publicly, citing security reasons, but has offered to allow Edwardsโ widow to see the footage.
