7-year-old boy struck, killed in Orange County crash, troopers say

Boy was riding his bicycle along trail in area of North Pine Hills Road, Dolores Drive, according to FHP

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 7-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed and a man was injured in an Orange County crash Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to a crash report, the wreck occurred around 3:25 p.m. in the area of North Pine Hills Road and Dolores Drive in Orlando.

Troopers said an Orlando man, 36, driving a pickup truck was traveling south on North Pine Hills Road in the outside lane approaching Dolores Drive at the same time the boy was riding east on a bike trail.

A crash report shows the boy exited the bike trail into the direct path of the truck, which had the green light and was unable to stop in time. The truck then struck the boy, who was projected from his bicycle and the man exited the right side of the road and struck two curbs, troopers said. The truck then continued south onto multiple front lawns, striking a big rock and then hitting a large business sign.

The man and the boy were both transported to the hospital, where the 7-year-old died, troopers said. The pickup truck driver’s injuries were listed as serious, according to the FHP.

Fire officials previously said five people total were treated and involved in the crash.

There was a crosswalk at the intersection, but the wreck happened outside that area, troopers said.
