Altamonte Springs police officers shoot, kill man on Wymore Road in Winter Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Altamonte Springs police officers on Friday shot and killed a 41-year-old man who was wanted in connection with a felony and ran toward them with an unknown object after stopping his car in Winter Park, officials said.

The fatal shooting happened around 1 p.m. on Wymore Road near Lee Road.

According to Altamonte Springs police, detectives were conducting an investigation into a crime and located a vehicle driven by Richard Phillip Randall Jr.

Police said Randall stopped his car in the roadway of the 900 block of Wymore Road and abruptly jumped out of his vehicle and ran toward officers with an unknown object in his hands.

Officers fired multiple shots, striking Randall, who died at a hospital, police said.

Police have not released any details about the felony they were investigating.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation, which is standard procedure.

The ASPD said the Winter Park Police Department will look into any potential crimes that occurred in their jurisdiction.

Earlier in the day, Winter Park police warned drivers to expect delays on Wymore Road due to an ongoing investigation.

Northbound Wymore Road was shut down from Lee Road to Kennedy Boulevard.

No other details have been released.
