TRAFFIC ALERT: Vehicle fire slows traffic on Turnpike near Wildwood

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A vehicle fire on the Florida Turnpike in Sumter County forced lanes to be shut down and brought traffic to a crawl Saturday, according to the sheriff’s office.

All northbound lanes were shut down around noon in the area of mile marker 307/308, near Wildwood, as emergency crews could be seen on traffic cameras responding to the scene.

The leftmost travel lane had been reopened at the time of this report, the cameras showed, with the sheriff’s office issuing an update saying as much around 1 p.m.
