FALL 2022 RAINFALL:

Hurricane season became much more active once it merged with the fall season in Florida, with both Hurricane Ian in late September and Hurricane Nicole, a rare hurricane making landfall in November.

Staggering storm totals from Ian racked up around 10-15 inches with even higher amounts toward the Interstate 4 corridor through Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties. Isolated max amounts reached 16-21 inches, which produced catastrophic flooding for many homes and businesses.

The rain didn’t stop there, as Nicole moved into east Central Florida. The system dumped an additional 2-6 inches of rain over the same areas that dealt with record rainfall just over a month after Ian.

On top of record rainfall from back-to-back hurricanes, stalled out fronts in between contributed to the highest rainfall totals for a fall season ever on record in Orlando and Sanford.

Rainfall rankings:

  • Daytona Beach: 23.53 inches (+8.77 above normal) 9th wettest on record
  • Melbourne: 23.42 inches (+8.38″ above normal) 8th wettest on record
  • Orlando: 28.83 inches (+17.21″ above normal) wettest on record
  • Sanford: 27.81 inches (+15.79″ above normal) wettest on record
  • Leesburg: 11.32 inches (+1.73″ above normal)

FALL 2022 TEMPERATURES:

When it comes to temperatures, fall 2022 started cooler with more tropical activity but ended the season much warmer than usual. This led to average temperatures for the season that were also above normal by 0.5-2 degrees. Fall 2022 ranked within the top 15 warmest on record for the majority of the primary climate sites in east Central Florida.

Temperature Rankings:

  • Daytona Beach: 75.0° (+1.1° above normal)
  • Melbourne: 76.4° (-0.4° below normal)
  • Orlando: 77.0° (+2.1° above normal) 8th warmest on record
  • Sanford: 75.7° (+0.7° above normal)
  • Leesburg: 75.2° (+0.6° above normal)
