2022 marked wet, warm year in Orlando

Tropical systems big factor to Orlando being 20% wetter than normal

Wind, rain from Hurricane Ian pummel Orlando's I-Drive

ORLANDO, Fla. – Time to check in with this week’s Forecasting Change. As we start the clock ticking on 2023 I wanted to pause and look back over the last year.

In Orlando last year, we were warmer than normal. I know that cannot be much of a surprise given the hot run we had over the summer. Officially, Orlando goes into the books with the temperature at 2.3 degrees warmer than normal. We also had a couple of tropical experiences that helped push our precipitation up. Orlando ends 2022 being 20% wetter than normal.

These numbers are reflective of the pattern of warming we have been experiencing in the last 50 or 60 years. And the wet numbers are also part of a pattern of having heavy, torrential rain, when showers occur.

Next week we will take a look at 2022 global temperatures.
