ORLANDO, Fla. – If you step outside Thursday evening, don’t forget to look up as the sky will look extra bright as the final supermoon of 2025 rises!

This final full moon of the year is named the “cold moon” due to it usually happening close to early winter.

Not only will it be a full moon, it will be the third and final in a trio of supermoons in 2025.

The “Cold Supermoon” will reach peak illumination on Dec. 4 at 6:14 p.m. ET.

What is a supermoon?

Now, the term “supermoon,” means that the full moon will look slightly bigger and brighter. This happens when the moon is at its fullest while making its closest approach to the Earth during its orbit.

Why do December full moons look brighter?

Winter nights tend to help put the spotlight on the moon, too. Dry air and cooler temperatures can make the sky feel sharper and clearer, which makes that bright moonlight even more noticeable.

For moon-watchers, the best time to step out is around moonrise or an hour after sunset. That’s when the moon hangs low on the horizon and can look especially big.

Weather Outlook for Central Florida

The forecast for tonight looks favorable.

Skies are expected to be mostly clear with mild temperatures and minimal cloud cover. That means excellent viewing conditions for the Cold Supermoon as it shines brightly overhead.
