USA Today has released its list of the “best small towns in the South,” highlighting some off-the-beaten-path locales that offer plenty of charm and hospitality.
“Relaxing getaways, cultural immersion, outdoor adventures and culinary delights await across the region in these 10 small towns — each with a population of less than 25,000 — that have been nominated by an expert panel and voted as the best by readers," the report reads.

Topping the list is the college town of Starkville in Mississippi, which USA Today dubbed a “thriving arts scene” with several historic districts.
However, three entries in the ranking can be found right here in the Sunshine State. They are as follows:
No. 3 — Inverness
“The historic downtown of Inverness, Florida, is anchored by a beautifully restored 1912 courthouse-turned-museum, and goes the extra mile with local shops, restaurants, and the renovated Valerie Theatre.
Outdoor enthusiasts can cycle the 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail that runs through Inverness, explore Fort Cooper State Park, or enjoy Henderson Lake within the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes. The area’s proximity to natural springs, including Three Sisters Springs where manatees gather in winter, makes this spot like nowhere else.”

No. 5 — Safety Harbor
"Downtown Safety Harbor is packed with tempting shops, eateries, and art galleries. Events like the lively Third Friday celebrations and the Sunday Farmers Market on Main create a vibrant community atmosphere that’s welcoming to visitors.
For waterfront views, the Safety Harbor Waterfront Park offers a peaceful space with a scenic pier, ideal for fishing or spotting marine wildlife."

No. 8 — Cocoa Beach
