WINTER PARK, Fla. – More than three years ago, an announcement was made that Pig Floyd’s Urban BBQ was planning to open in Winter Park.
Thomas Ward, the restaurant owner, said on Friday that the target is to have the restaurant open by May.

Ward said a couple of factors that led to a longer construction timeline were permitting and upgrading the older building, which is located at 1471 Lee Road.
Pig Floyd’s will replace the original location of Bubbalou’s Bodacious Bar-B-Que, which sat at that spot for 35 years before closing in 2021.
Ward previously told News 6 that he wanted to pay tribute to the former restaurant.
“Sam Meiner (the founder of Bubbalou’s) was a very important player in the barbecue business and, obviously, I want to serve him with a lot of respect,” he said. “So, we might be doing some items on the menu just to pay our respects to him.”
Pig Floyd’s is known for its smoked meats made with nods to different cultures. It serves different items, such as butter chicken tacos, oakwood smoked ribs, Mexican street corn fries and fried season tofu.
The original Pig Floyd’s is located at 1326 N. Mills Ave. in Orlando.
What makes this Lee Road location different is it will have a drive-thru, Ward said. He previously said the drive-thru will be the focus for the new restaurant.
“That helps us a lot because the market right now has shifted into a takeout and to-go market,” he said. “So the drive-thru will be one of our fortes, and I think we’re going to obviously work diligently in trying to make it work.”
Ward has another restaurant concept, Piggza which is also in Orlando’s Mills 50 District.
