ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Last month we introduced you to the Dream Lake Elementary Ambassadors as they prepared for the Global Amazing Shake competition in Atlanta, which is described as “the Super Bowl of Soft Skills.”
Eleven fourth and fifth graders from Dream Lake just returned from their trip, and we are happy to share that fifth-grader Tyson Williams placed in the Top 8 of more than 360 students from around the world.
“It’s giving an introduction, making a positive first impression. Interview skills, etiquette, putting yourself in real-world scenarios and seeing how you’ll react in the most positive uplifting way,” said Carolyn Zuclich, Reading Specialist and Coach. “When I tell you we all needed paramedics because we were all trying to catch our breath. We were so incredibly proud of all of our kids, obviously, Tyson’s big finish in the top 8 is something we never even dreamed of, which taught us even more to dare to fail, which is something they really taught us at Ron Clark Academy.”
Zuclich explained that students competed in real-world-type challenges, and were scored on a scale of 1-20. The highest-scoring students moved on to the next phases of competition.
“And he also participated in the Breakfast of Champions, which was the etiquette round. So he had to have a conversation and remember which fork to use, where to put his water cup, all those things,” she said.
Tyson’s Top 8 finish is historic for Dream Lake Elementary. News 6 Anchor Julie Broughton asked him his favorite part of the experience.
“I would say spending time with my fellow ambassadors. They’ve been supporting me the whole way and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them so I’d just like to thank all of you,” he said.
And since the Global Amazing Shake is open to students in fourth through eighth grade, Tyson could have the opportunity to return next year. He tells Broughton one of his career goals is to be a barber because he likes helping people look good.
