🄩Corner Chophouse already feels like a Winter Park classic

One year in, this neighborhood steakhouse has the warmth, energy and old-school charm of an Orlando staple.

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Corner Chophouse is celebrating its one-year anniversary in Winter Park with a limited-time menu available Sept. 1-7. Created in appreciation of the community that has supported the restaurant throughout its first year, the menu features returning guest favorites and special dishes from Executive Chef Nick Billings.

Even though Corner Chophouse has only been open for a year, it already has the energy of a place that has been part of Winter Park for much longer. On a Thursday evening, the dining room was in full swing. The warm lighting, leather banquettes, copper accents and lamps on every table made the space feel like an old-school New York steakhouse, while the lively room kept it feeling current and distinctly local.

All of those little details contribute to the experience. The lighting makes you want to settle in. The dining room feels made for long conversations. The bar has the kind of atmosphere that could easily turn a quick drink into a full evening. Corner Chophouse feels polished, but not overly formal, and celebratory without requiring a special occasion.

Most of all, it genuinely feels like a neighborhood steakhouse. It feels like a place that belongs to the people of Winter Park. Even only one year in, Corner Chophouse already feels like an Orlando staple.

The anniversary menu

We started with several dishes from the one-year anniversary specials menu, and it was a fun way to experience some of the restaurant’s more celebratory offerings.

Wild Boar Meatballs (News 6 WKMG CSD)

The wild boar meatballs with tomato agrodolce and Parmesan brought a hearty, savory flavor with a little sweetness and tang from the tomato. The Parmesan added a salty, nutty finish, and the dish felt like a warm, polished take on a classic comfort-food appetizer.

New Orleans BBQ Shrimp (News 6 WKMG CSD)

The New Orleans BBQ shrimp with Worcestershire cream and heirloom grits was another standout. The shrimp were huge, smoky and packed with barbecue flavor, with a satisfying texture that made every bite feel substantial. The Worcestershire cream brought a deep savory note, and the grits were smooth, creamy and comforting. This was technically made for sharing, but I easily could have eaten it as a full meal.

Kaluga Caviar (News 6 WKMG CSD)

The Kaluga caviar with housemade chips, crème fraîche and chives was a much lighter way to begin. The chips were crisp and salty, the caviar briny and delicate, and the crème fraîche added a cool, creamy balance. It was simple, elegant and a nice contrast to the richer anniversary dishes.

Picanha Demkota Ranch (News 6 WKMG CSD)

For my main course from the anniversary menu, I tried the 10-ounce picanha from DemKota Ranch with chimichurri sauce. The cut had the rich, beefy flavor I want from a steak, while the chimichurri added fresh herbs, acidity and brightness. It was a classic steakhouse order with enough of a fresh, vibrant finish to keep it from feeling heavy.

Orange Cream Cake (News 6 WKMG CSD)

Dessert from the anniversary menu was the orange cream cake, made with French vanilla orange cake, orange curd, vanilla Swiss meringue and an orange-pistachio crumble. It was bright and citrusy, with a creamy texture from the curd and meringue and a nutty crunch from the pistachio crumble. It was a refreshing way to end the anniversary portion of the meal.

A look at the regular menu

We also tried several dishes from the regular menu, starting with the bread service. For $8, Corner Chophouse serves milk bread with salted European butter, and this was hands down the best bread service I have ever had. Our server told us the bakers arrive at 7 a.m. every morning to bake the bread, and you can taste the care that goes into it. It arrived warm, soft and slightly sweet, with a buttery richness that made it hard to stop eating. The European butter was on another level and made the whole thing feel much more special than a typical bread basket.

The pork belly was a standout appetizer. It was incredibly crisp on the outside but still fatty, juicy and tender inside. The maple peppercorn jus brought a little sweetness and spice, while the pickled sweet onion and citrus added exactly what the rich pork needed. The bright, punchy flavors cut through the meat without overpowering it, creating a really balanced bite.

For another main course, we tried the market catch with field peas, Frog Song Farms okra and tomato jam. The dish brought together fresh, seasonal flavors with a little sweetness from the tomato jam and an earthy quality from the vegetables. It felt lighter than some of the other dishes while still being satisfying.

The half chicken and dumplings was one of the most comforting dishes of the meal. Made with Joyce Farms chicken, potato gnocchi, chicken jus and roasted carrots, it was fresh and herby, with pillowy-soft dumplings and a rich, savory sauce. It had the cozy feeling of a traditional chicken-and-dumplings dinner, but the presentation and ingredients gave it a more elevated steakhouse treatment.

We finished with the S’mores Sundae from the regular menu, which brought together graham cracker ice cream, chocolate sauce, Biscoff crĆ©meux, chocolate cake, a graham cracker tuile and toasted marshmallow meringue. It was rich, playful and nostalgic, like the flavors of a campfire s’more turned into an over-the-top sundae.

A place for every kind of occasion

What I liked most about Corner Chophouse is that it does not feel like a restaurant you can only visit for a major celebration. It works for a birthday or anniversary, but it also feels just as natural to stop in for drinks and appetizers at the bar, meet friends for dinner or turn an ordinary Thursday night into something worth dressing up for.

The food has the familiar comforts you expect from a steakhouse, but the menu leaves room for surprises. The atmosphere feels timeless without feeling stuck in the past, and the hospitality makes the whole experience feel personal.

I can already see myself going back for many different occasions. Corner Chophouse may have just celebrated its first anniversary, but it already feels like it belongs to Winter Park — and like it is well on its way to becoming a longtime Orlando favorite.
