Water gushes after Lake Mary hydrant damaged

SEMINOLE CO, Fla. – Crews are trying to repair a damaged fire hydrant after a car crashed into it Tuesday morning in Seminole County.

According to Seminole County firefighters, the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. in front of the gated Alaqua Lakes subdivision off Lake Mary Boulevard.

It took public works crews about two hours to shut off water to the hydrant after the accident, which sent water spewing as high as 40 feet into the air.

Public works crews first thought water would have to be shut off to the neighborhood, possibly impacting hundreds of homes, but crews told Local 6 water has been restored to those residents.

Repairs to the hydrant are expected to take several hours.

It is not clear if the driver was injured in the crash or if any charges will be filed.
