Wrong-way driver killed in crash on US-27 in Lake County, FHP says

1 dead, 2 injured in crash, troopers say

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A wrong-way driver was killed and two other people were injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 27 in Lake County on Monday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Investigators said the three-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. Highway 27 and El Presidente Boulevard around 6:40 p.m. Monday.

FHP said for an unknown reason an 82-year-old Okahumpka man was driving a sedan northbound in the southbound lanes of U.S. 27.

Troopers said a 36-year-old Clermont woman driving southbound in an SUV and a 24-year-old Clermont man was driving an SUV southbound behind the 36-year-old’s SUV.

The front of the sedan hit the front of the SUV driven by the 36-year-old. The SUV driven by the Clermont man collided with SUV driven by the Clermont woman.

The 82-year-old man died on the scene and two others were taken to the hospital, troopers said.
