2 children dead, father in serious condition following Sanford dirt bike crash

Area of 13th Street closed at this time, police say

SANFORD, Fla. – Two children are dead and a man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a Sanford crash on Friday, according to the police department.

Sanford police said the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 1700 block of Historic Goldsboro Boulevard, and the crash involved a dirt bike and a truck.

In a release, officers announced that a 34-year-old man appeared to be driving an unregistered dirt bike west along the boulevard, and his two children — a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old — were passengers on the dirt bike.

A Ford 150 truck was driving east along the boulevard and attempted to make a left turn onto Mulberry Avenue when it struck the dirt bike, the release shows.

According to the department, criminal charges are pending due to the dirt bike not being street legal, having no headlight and being reported as traveling at a “high rate of speed” at the time of the crash.

In addition, police said neither the 34-year-old nor his two children were wearing helmets.
