OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A large brush fire in a rural area in east Osceola County forced some people to evacuate Friday.

The 400-acre fire is located in the Bull Creek area, east of Holopaw.

The fire is near Crab Grass Road and Harris Road, south of U.S. 192 and east of U.S. 441.

A spokesperson for the agency says some structures off nearby Palm Frond Road were evacuated. Officials say three campers, a shed and a vehicle were destroyed, but no one was hurt.

The fire is now 100% contained and crews are working to clean it up. Several agencies helped fight the fire, including Osceola County Fire Rescue and Brevard County Fire Rescue.

“We have some units that will remain on scene throughout the night,” said Osceola County spokesman Joshua Holder. “But this was definitely a multi-agency effort, we had 22 units from four different agencies to get this fire contained.”

The fire released a huge plume of smoke that could be seen from Florida Department of Transportation cameras west of the fire along Florida’s Turnpike.

Several counties are currently under a burn ban because dry conditions can ignite brush fires. Osceola County was already under a burn ban. Orange County put one into effect on Friday. Brevard and Seminole counties are also under burn bans.

A burn ban means no unpermitted outdoor burning, including campfires and bonfires, or yard and trash burning.
