Ways to keep pets safe during summer heat

Veterinarian Dr. Danielle Bernal guests on Breakfast with Bridgett

ORLANDO, Fla. – A veterinarian joined the chat Friday on Breakfast With Bridgett with tips about keeping your pets safe this summer.

Dr. Danielle Bernal said summer cuts, preparing for fireworks, cookouts and extra visitors this time of year are important.

And with temperatures feeling like triple digits, it’s vital to know heat exhaustion warning signs in pets.

“Dogs and cats, they’ll pant. Put their bodies on cold floors, that’s how they bring their temperature down. When they go past that and start experiencing an internal body temperature that’s just too hot, that’s when you’ll see really labored breathing, extremely high heart rates, dizziness, lazy eyes, excess drooling, they’ll maybe loose coordination, vomiting, those signs are extreme signs,” Bernal said.
