Giant pigeons headed to downtown Orlando. Here’s when to expect them

ORLANDO, Fla. – Drivers in Orlando may soon spot some strange sights downtown as part of the city’s latest art project, according to city officials.

City spokesperson Ashley Papagni said the project will feature inflatable pigeons installed on several rooftops throughout downtown Orlando.

The installations are being brought forth by Creative City Project, an arts group funded in part by the county.

According to Papagni, the project is aimed at drawing more visitors to downtown Orlando’s local businesses and fostering a sense of community.

“Throughout history, pigeons played a role in society through communication, companionship and even warfare (think carrier pigeons and letters),” Papagni said. “As urban landscapes have evolved, we can find new ways to foster a greater appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living beings in an urban environment.”

These pigeons are expected to come in neon colors, including pink, orange, green, yellow, blue and purple, the release shows. They stretch up to 21 feet long and 16 feet high.

While the inflatable pigeons were delivered last month, installation is expected to begin within the next week or so, Papagni reported.

Those pigeons are set to be installed at the following locations:
