ORLANDO, Fla. – Surveillance video released by the Orlando Police Department shows the moments before, during and after a mass shooting in downtown Orlando early Friday.
According to police, two people were killed, seven people were shot and wounded and another person was trampled and injured.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith said 17-year-old Jaylen Edgar was arrested in connection to the shooting, but the motive is not known. Police have recommended Edgar be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and six counts of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
Surveillance video released by police captured the gunfire in a large crowd of people celebrating Halloween near Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue.
“Nobody saw the first (time he fired) in Central. We used the cameras, of course, to see that, play it back. We had the capability to play it back at major intersections. We played the camera back, saw the shooting happen, we put out his descriptor right away,” Smith said.
Below is a frame-by-frame recount of video and information released by police:
Police said the video shows the suspect, dressed in a yellow shirt, walking through the large crowd. The victim is the person on the left, with their face blurred.

Once the suspect is a few feet away from the victim, you can see him partially turn around.
The video then shows the suspect open fire.

At the start of the video, you can see the crowd of people. The area circled in red is where the shooting happened.
Seconds later, people start running, including the suspect.

Moments later, surveillance video shows a police officer taking him down.
“The officers saw the second shooting happen because, I mean, you saw there’s like five officers right there looking in the direction when he came and started shooting, and he shot multiple people right here,” Smith said.
Edgar was taken into custody.
