Spring break travel rush underway at Orlando International Airport

Airport says nearly 200K passengers expected this weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. – Spring break is underway for many families and that means big crowds as millions are flying in and out of Central Florida.

For weeks, things have been busy at Orlando International Airport.

“Everybody’s starting to travel already. I see them coming down now. That’s why we came a little early to beat the rush,” said Madisyn Hampton, who is visiting from Cleveland.

About 7.4 million people are passing through the gates for spring break. The most crowded will be this weekend.

“Now Saturday, I’m going to be worried,” Hampton said. “I know a lot of people are coming down here, saw a couple from Cleveland, so I know they’re coming from everywhere.”

The airport said nearly 200,000 passengers are expected Saturday and nearly as many on Sunday. With that in mind, travelers are urged to plan ahead for parking and pack only what they need.

One other time saver the airport suggests is booking a reservation time through MCO Reserve. It’s free of charge, and it will make things quicker and easier to get through TSA.

“Definitely get here early. Have everything ready, and it should be fine,” said Julie Stepp, who is here from Mississippi.

The airport also wants everyone to be mindful of any attachments to checked bags and as always, allow plenty of time to catch your flight.

“If you’re in Orlando, leave way earlier than your flight because of traffic. I’m going to say that over and over. The traffic is bad,” said Cody Jones, who is visiting from Utah.
