ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The Orange County couple who were seen in a TikTok video using racially-charged language against a solar utility worker earlier this summer is now facing formal charges.
The state attorney’s office announced Wednesday that Steven Edwin Wiley and Cheryl Ann Pyle are being charged with assault evidencing prejudice.
The charges stem from an incident in the Hunter’s Creek area of Orange County on July 29.
Solar utility worker Antavis Johnson posted the video, which was taken while he was canvassing a neighborhood on TikTok.

In the video, a couple can be seen coming out of the home toward Johnson, using various expletives and racially-charged language.
“Get your Black (expletive) the (expletive) out of here,” the man can be heard saying. “You come back again, I’m gonna hang you.”
Johnson told News 6 at the time that he tried to go to the nearest neighbor’s house, but he said Pyle and Wiley followed him.
The video got more than 13 million views before it was taken down.

According to a sheriff’s office report, the couple claimed Johnson gave Pyle the middle finger and used an expletive when she told him she wasn’t interested in buying anything. They said that led to an argument.
According to the report, the deputy said Wiley became “uncooperative” and began making several racially-charged statements.
The report said the couple received threatening messages and phone calls starting on July 30, which the deputy said were likely from people who saw the video on TikTok.
Siveo Romulo, who lives across the street from where the video was recorded, said it was painful to watch. He said no one deserves to be treated that way.
A week later, deputies also responded to the home because of reports of a suspicious package that was later deemed safe.
Wiley and Pyle have been ordered to appear in county court for the assault charge later this month.
Both Wiley and Pyle are currently in Orange County Jail, however, on charges in an unrelated case.

As News 6 reported in October, Pyle was arrested, accused of beating her stepmother and preventing her from leaving her room.
Pyle is facing charges of false imprisonment, felony battery and battery domestic violence.
Wiley is also facing felony charges in the case, of false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony battery and battery domestic violence.
Neighbors said the outburst does not reflect their community.
Pyle and Wiley remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 25 for the assault charge.
