Losing Kroger delivery service in Florida? Try these grocery store alternatives

Subscription services offer free delivery, other benefits

Instacart delivery service

ORLANDO, Fla. – Kroger’s decision to end its delivery service in Florida shocked customers on Tuesday.

The grocery store company is also closing its fulfillment facility in Groveland, and 1,400 employees will lose their jobs.

Kroger sent notices to its affected customers that delivery service would end on Feb. 1, 2026.

There are several grocery stores in Florida that either offer their own delivery services, or partner with a delivery group.

Here is what you need to know about each one.

Instacart

Instacart.com is probably the biggest of the grocery delivery services and offers the largest variety of stores.

Besides groceries, it also offers pickup and delivery services for liquor stores, membership stores like Costco, retail stores like Lowe’s, Petco, and Best Buy.

Here are a few of the food stores working with Instacart in the Orlando area:

  • Publix
  • Aldi
  • Target
  • Costco
  • Sprouts
  • The Fresh Market
  • Sam’s Club
  • H Mart
  • Bravo
  • BJ’s Wholesale Club
  • Save-a-Lot

Store availability does depend on where you live; however, Instacart does operate over a large geographic area. So a store that’s further away may be available, but you may have to pay an extra fee.

Instacart employs people to shop at the participating stores and deliver the groceries, similar to Uber Eats or DoorDash.

Customers can pay delivery fees that start at $3.99 for same-day orders over $35. Fees can vary depending on how much you spend and the types of stories. There are also service fees that apply depending on location.

Customers can also get an Instacart+ membership. The membership gives free delivery on orders of $10 or more, depending on the store, and reduced service fees.

Subscribers can also get restaurant delivery for free, and free subscriptions to Peacock and New York Times Cooking, and share their benefits with family members.

The service costs $99 a year or $9.99 a month.

Customers can schedule out delivery and pickup times. Some stores, like Aldi, also have an Express listing. If you shop through that, you can get a selection of store items with delivery in under an hour. Items under the Express listing are often more expensive.

Also note that some store products are more expensive on Instacart than they are in-store, like Publix. Other stores specify that they list in-store prices.

Uber Eats

Known for restaurant delivery, Uber Eats, part of the Uber Network, can also deliver groceries from a small number of stores, depending on where you live.

Like Instacart, Uber Eats employees are sent to the stores to handle the shopping and then deliver the order.

Grocery stores in the Orlando area on Uber Eats include:

  • Winn-Dixie
  • Sprouts
  • The Fresh Market
  • Aldi
  • Target
  • Save-a-Lot

Free delivery is sometimes available; otherwise, delivery fees depend on the store and can run as high as $10.

Prices can also be higher than buying in-store, but discounts are also frequently available.

You can also sign up for Uber One, which gives subscribers access to free delivery and discounts on Uber rides. Service fees still apply.

Uber One costs $96 a year or $9.99 a month. There is also a cheaper Uber One for Students program that is $4.99 a month or $48 a year.

DoorDash

Another restaurant delivery company, DoorDash, also offers a grocery delivery service.

Like Instacart and Uber Eats, DoorDash employees are sent to the stores to handle the shopping and then deliver the order.

Grocery stores in the Orlando area include:

  • Winn-Dixie
  • Sprouts
  • Aldi
  • Target
  • Save-a-Lot
  • Sedano’s
  • Key Foods

Free delivery is available for the first order through DoorDash. After that, fees vary.

Prices can also be higher than buying in-store, but discounts are also frequently available.

DoorDash also has DashPass, a subscription service that offers $0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on grocery orders. DashPass costs $96 a year or $9.99 a month.

There is also a DashPass for students that is $4.99 a month or $48 a year.

Walmart

Walmart customers can get free curbside pickup on groceries when they spend $35 or more.

There is also the Walmart+ delivery service, which is $49 for the first year, $98 for subsequent years. You can also pay a monthly fee of $12.95 instead. There are discounts for AARP members, college students, and people on SNAP.

The service gives you free same-day grocery delivery on orders over $35, and free next-day and two-day shipping with no minimum order from Walmart.com. There is also free delivery for prescriptions.

Other benefits include a free Paramount+ or Peacock subscription, a 10-cent per gallon discount at Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy gas stations, discounts at Burger King, and more.

Target

Target offers free curbside pickup through its website or the Target app. The store also offers $9.99 deliveries through Shipt.

Target also offers Target Circle 360. This membership service has free same-day delivery on orders of $35 or more. The program also offers same-day delivery at other stores, like PetSmart, Petco, or Lowe’s.

Target says there are no price markups if you order for delivery compared to buying in-store.

Subscribers also get free two-day shipping from Target.com, and can choose a free gift each month. Other discounts and promotions also pop up from time to time.

Target Circle 360 costs $99 a year or $10.99 a month. There are discounts for college students and people on government assistance. If you own a Target Circle credit card, you can also get $50 off an annual membership.

Amazon/Whole Foods Market

For Prime subscribers in some parts of the country, Amazon offers free delivery through AmazonFresh on orders over $100.

Amazon also offers free pickup at Whole Foods Market or delivery for $9.99.

Amazon also has a grocery delivery subscription service for AmazonFresh, Whole Foods, and certain local retailers. It’s $9.99 a month or $99 for the year. Subscribers need to spend $25 or more to get free delivery. You must be a Prime member to get a subscription.

Some people with government assistance can also qualify for a discounted subscription. Income verification is required.
