Gov. DeSantis announces over $100M in grants for water-quality improvement, some in Central Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Wednesday morning in Tampa, announcing $112 million in grants for water-quality improvements along the Gulf Coast and for some Central Florida utilities companies.

The disbursements were described as follows:

  • $50 million - Fourteen alternative water supply grants across the Gulf Coast and in Central Florida, including for Toho Water Authority and Polk Regional Water Cooperative in Osceola and Polk counties, respectively.
  • $50 million - Twenty-three projects regarding freshwater springs, including:
    • $2.9 million for a septic-to-sewer conversion project in Newberry.
    • $1 million to Alachua Conservation Trust, Inc., for the Suwannee High Recharge Pinelands Land Acquisition.
    • $1.6 million for Inverness’ sewer extension septic-to-sewer project.
    • $6.1 million for Wakulla County’s Crawfordville East phase V and VI septic-to-sewer project.
  • $12 million - Sixteen projects for state universities and counties to combat algal blooms.

DeSantis was joined at The Hula Bay Club by Alexis Lambert, secretary of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
