BAY LAKE, Fla. – The Muppets are moving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and before they take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, guests can get their final shows in at one of the park’s longest attractions.
To make way for the newly announced Monsters Inc. land, Disney announced that the Grand Avenue area will begin a phased closing in May, with the last day to dine at Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano on May 10.
Following that, MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on June 8.
Opened in 1991, MuppetVision 3D is one of the oldest attractions at Disney Hollywood Studios and was one of the last projects Jim Henson worked on before his death.
As the transformation moves forward, Disney says teams are exploring ways to preserve the MuppetVision 3D film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.
In the Friday announcement, Disney did not reveal when the final rides at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will take place. Disney wrote “There’s still enough time to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch a glorious three-hour finale with MuppetVision 3D again before their final curtain calls.”
The Sunset Boulevard coaster’s new theme will have Muppets “teaming up some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival.”
