BAY LAKE, Fla. – Flik, Hopper and the rest of the “A Bug’s Life” gang will soon be swept away from a longtime attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

According to a Walt Disney World statement, ”It’s Tough to be a Bug!” will close permanently on March 17, 2025, to make way for a “Zootopia”-themed show.

“It’s Tough to be a Bug!” opened with Disney’s Animal Kingdom on April 22, 1998 to promote the release of the “A Bug’s Life” film later that year. Located within the Tree of Life Theater, the 3D movie and live show is known for its show effects including water spray and activating a stink bug smell.

Taking over the theater is “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” Joining Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde and other characters, guests will be taken on an adventure through the different biomes seen in the film.

Disney first gave hints it would be replacing “It’s Tough to be a Bug” with a Zootopia-themed show in September 2023 before officially announcing that “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” would open in winter 2025.

“It’s Tough to be a Bug!” is one of several Animal Kingdom attractions marked for closure as the park undergoes transformation. Dinoland U.S.A.’s Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, Fossil Fun Games, and TriceraTop Spin closed earlier this year.
